The mediator, the mediator or the mediators
Definition mediator or mediator:
“A mediator is an independent and neutral person without decision-making power, who leads the parties through the mediation” (§ 1 Abs. 2 MediationsG).
Every adult can become a mediator. There are numerous education offers. For lawyers who want to become mediators there are e.g. special offers from legal training institutions, such as the German Bar Association (DAI) or the German Bar Association (DAA). A mediator, who is also a lawyer, is a “lawyer mediator”. Mediation by a lawyer mediator is not legal advice; if necessary, the parties may be represented in a mediation process by lawyers of their choice.
